I have been writing this blog after reading a statement by a Doctor of Medicine who is running her own clinic saying that Pharmacist is only a compounder. I know I am nobody to criticize or comment on anyone.

One question I would like to ask all the physicians in India that at what extent they studied about the drugs and how much time they acquire to learn diagnosis?

Doctor study about medicines just for 1 or 2 years in bachelor degree. While study pharmacology for 2 year and also Pharmacotherapeutics for 3 years. So its obvious that pharmacist are better decision makers in case of drug therapy. I don’t want interfere in space of a physician but want a fair chance to treat the patients.

I am not saying that we should compete with Doctors. But we can be given a chance to work with them to provide service to patients. Doctors are not able to cater the needs of growing patient population.Pharmacists will help health sector to reach 1.5 billion population of our country.

The pharmacist being only a compounder now is a old concept. Pharmacist now have enough knowledge and well skills in handling of medicines. Doctors are having well knowledge of diagnosis. Most of time we seen that they are learning things from Medical Representatives about indications, Dose etc.

The rights to prescribe drugs still is not given to pharmacist in India. But in USA, UK and Canada it is well accepted that Pharm.D professionals are having equal rights and reputation as MBBS or else.

"Then what's wrong with our Indian Medical Feternity."

I think some people are being scared that their business will sponge away or maybe their importance will get decreased.

Pharm D (Doctor of Pharmacy) is the revolution in the health care sector. I am proud to be a Doctor of Pharmacy Graduate and I am making my contributions in the field of health care and humanity by my research.
