The US regulators have approved the digital pill with an inbuilt sensor which will help the doctors to keep track of whether the patients has taken his/her medicine.
This system is useful to overcome poor compliance in patients with chronic conditions. As poor compliance can lead to less consumption of industry products and increased cost to payer when their condition gets as result of missed dose.
The size of sensor is very minute and made up of ingredient found in food. It gets activated when it come in contact with fluids in stomach. The sensor sends a message to patch worn on patient’s skin and communicate all this to My Cite App on compatible mobile devices. The sensor is digested and eliminated from the body. The product is approved for the treatment of Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorders and Depression.
